A Bachelor's study program equips you with a basic academic education and the ability to apply scholarly methodology. The standard period of study is six semesters. With a Bachelor's degree you can embark on a career or continue your studies with a Master's program.
Bachelor's Degree Programs, Major and Minor Study Programs
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is currently developing its offering of degree programs as part of the Bologna 2020 project. To ease the transition, which will probably take place with effect from Fall Semester 2019, the faculty has already taken various decisions with implications for the offering of programs and the options for combining them.
Bachelor's study programs at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences require 180 ECTS credits and consist of either two major study programs (90/90 ECTS credits) or a major and a minor study program (120/60 ECTS credits). From Spring Semester 2017 it has no longer been possible to commence studies with one major and two minor study programs, with the exception of only a few combinations.
The plan in the future is to offer the Bachelor's degree program at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences as a major/minor combination (120/60 ECTS credits). We therefore advise students at the beginning of their studies already now to choose a major/minor combination (120/60 ECTS credits).
The title awarded when you successfully complete the Bachelor's degree program is determined by the major study program:
- Bachelor of Arts UZH (your major is in humanities and cultural studies)
- Bachelor of Arts UZH in Social Sciences (your major is in social sciences)
- Bachelor of Science UZH in Psychology (your major is in psychology)
