Master's Study Program

A Master's program equips you with the ability to do independent scholarly research on the basis of in-depth academic training or training to extend your interdisciplinary skills. The standard period of study is four semesters.

Master's Degree Programs, Major and Minor Study Programs

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is currently developing its offering of degree programs as part of the Bologna 2020 project. To ease the transition, which will probably take place with effect from Fall Semester 2019, the faculty has already taken various decisions with implications for the offering of programs and the options for combining them.

The Master's programs at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences are worth 120 ECTS credits. Until Fall Semester 2018 you can take up studies in all possible combinations. From Spring Semester 2019 a limited selection will be available. If you want to start your studies then you will no longer be able to choose combinations with a 15-ECTS-credit minor study program (subject to a few exceptions). Until the introduction of the new course architecture you will be free to choose and start a degree program consisting of two major study programs (75/45 ECTS credits). In the future, Master's students at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences will combine a major and a minor study program (90/30 ECTS credits) or will do a single subject program.

Certain combinations of major and minor study programs are not permitted because the content of the minor program is already covered by the major program. You'll find information on combinations that are not permitted in the program regulations for the study programs.
