Dieser Kurs ist darauf ausgelegt, das individuelle Studium kritischer Forschungsliteratur im Bereich der ostasiatischen Kunstgeschichte zu unterstützen. Durch eine Kombination aus vom Dozenten ausgewählten Texten und auf die jeweiligen Forschungsinteressen der Studierenden zugeschnittenen Materialien (in Absprache mit und genehmigt durch den Dozenten/die Dozentin) erweitern und vertiefen die Studierenden ihr Verständnis für zentrale Inhalte, Diskurse, Theorien und Methodologien der Disziplin. Von den Teilnehmenden wird erwartet, dass sie sich kritisch mit den zugewiesenen Texten auseinandersetzen und über deren Relevanz für laufende wissenschaftliche Debatten reflektieren. Die Fähigkeit, diese Materialien zu diskutieren und zu kontextualisieren, ist wesentlich für die Abschlussprüfung. |

Die Studierenden ergänzen und vertiefen bereits erworbene Kenntnisse kunsthistorischer Diskurse, Theorien und Methodologien im Bereich der Kunstgeschichte Ostasiens. Sie sind in der Lage, Forschungsliteratur zu verstehen, zu evaluieren, zu interpretieren, sowie entnommene Informationen in eigenes, anwendbares Wissen umzuwandeln. Die Studierenden sind fähig, Aussagen unterschiedlicher Autoren sachlich einander gegenüberzustellen, die jeweiligen Inhalte zu reflektieren und in eigenen Aussagen und Interpretationen auf konkrete oder abstrakte Bereiche anzuwenden. |

Jedes Semester wird eine Vorlesung zu einem kulturübergreifenden Thema der Kunstgeschichte Ostasiens angeboten. Die Vorlesungen vermitteln Überblickswissen zu Formen, Gattungen, Themen und den Entwicklungslinien ostasiatischer Kunst und stellen diese anhand ausgewählter Objekte und Gegenstände tiefgreifend dar. |

Die Studierenden erweitern und vertiefen ihren Wissenstand über die Kunstgeschichte Ostasiens und vertiefen ihre Theorie- und Methodenkompetenz.
Sie sind vertraut mit historischen und besonders auch aktuellen Diskursen, Theorien und Methoden und werden dazu befähigt, die im Modul vorgestellten Gegenstände exemplarisch und systematisch ihrem jeweiligen kunsthistorischen Kontext zuzuordnen. Die Studierenden können die Entstehungs- und Rezeptionsgeschichte ostasiatischer Objekte in ihren eigenen als auch fremden Kulturen beschreiben und lernen diese Erkenntnisse mit aktuellen Theoriemodellen kritisch zu hinterfragen. |

This course explores the histories of art history in a global context with a focus on East Asia, and complements the spatial, material, and thematical perspectives employed in art history. Examining both theoretical frameworks and practical challenges, it scrutinizes the historicization of objects categorized as art, inviting the critical assessment of historical contextualization. Special attention is dedicated to probing issues of the canonization and periodization of art. By evaluating the development of narrative structures and epistemological frames, this module sheds light on how diverse material objects and events are integrated into the timelines of art history. Through its focus on temporal aspects of art production and reception this module complements the contents explored in «Space, Place and Mobility in East Asian Art», which emphasizes the spatial dimensions of art. |

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to orientate themselves in the histories of art history with a particular focus on East Asia. They will also acquire understanding of the historical transformation of interpretation of artworks. They will be able to critically engage - both verbally and in writing - with issues of historization, contextualization, canonization, and the periodization of art. |

Special emphasis will be placed on exploring the global circulation of East Asian art, encouraging consideration of the theoretical implications of diversity of artistic practices across different cultural contexts. Praktikanten erhalten tiefere Einblicke in laufende Projekte, den täglichen Ausstellungs-, Verwaltungs- und Pflegebetrieb und eigenen sich praktisches Wissen im entsprechenden Arbeitsfeldan.
